MJC Schedules April 14 Screening Of The Burden
movie

The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a screening of the film “The Burden” on Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The free event is part of the CEP Spring Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.

This documentary claims that America’s dependence on fossil fuels not only threatens our environment and our economy but also endangers our armed forces and our national security. The film also suggests that we need to embrace clean energy solutions if America is to continue as a global leader in the 21st century.

Colonel Paul W. Fellinger Jr., garrison commander of the Presidio of Monterey, will comment on issues raised in the film regarding the U.S. Army’s reliance on fossil fuels and the military’s transition to clean energy and increased energy efficiency.

Col. Fellinger was commissioned into the infantry from Xavier University in 1990. He is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Command and General Staff College and the United States Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.

A discussion will follow the showing of the film. The event has been organized and will be hosted by Bill Anelli, MJC professor of philosophy and Elizabeth McInnes, MJC professor of biology.
