Riverbank Police Services will be participating in the annual ‘National Night Out’ event once again. This year the event will be held during the evening hours of Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The National Night Out campaign involves emergency and law enforcement agencies, civic groups, neighborhood organizations, local government officials, local businesses and citizens throughout the community in a coordinated effort to ‘take back the night’ from criminals. Residents are encouraged to take part in local gatherings as a show of neighborhood unity.

Goals of the National Night Out program include:

Heightening crime and drug prevention awareness;

Generating support for, and participation in local anti-crime programs such as Neighborhood Watch;

Strengthening neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships;

Sending a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods celebrate National Night Out with a variety of events and activities such as ‘block parties.’

In the City of Action, officials said there will be six or more stops with 15 to 20 minutes at each stop for the local law enforcement and emergency services contingent. Meet and greet your neighbors in Riverbank.

If you want to participate, call (209) 863-7106 prior to Thursday, Aug. 1.
