Officer Involved Shooting Results In Death Of Suspect
Stan co SO

A multi-agency investigation is currently underway for an officer-involved shooting that occurred late Tuesday morning in the 7000 block of Burneyville Road in the city of Riverbank.

At about 10:45 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the city of Riverbank responded to a 911 call in the 7000 block Burneyville Road in regards to an ex-tenant returning to a property he had been evicted from over a month ago. The property owner had confronted the suspect, 51-year old Armando Osuna, but Osuna refused to leave.

Two deputies responded to the call and contacted Osuna on the property of the residence. During the contact with the deputies, Osuna became combative and struck one of the deputies with a metal pipe. One of the deputies fired at Osuna, striking him in the upper torso. Deputies were able to detain the suspect in handcuffs and request medical assistance.

Osuna was transported to a Modesto hospital for medical care, but later succumbed to his injuries several hours later.

The one deputy who was struck with the pipe was also transported to the hospital. He was treated and released.

Three separate and independent investigations have been launched into this officer-involved shooting. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is conducting both a criminal and administrative investigation and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the incident.
