The public is invited to stop by Stanislaus County Office of Education’s (SCOE) booth at the fair tonight, Wednesday, July 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to meet members of the Stanislaus County Board of Education and County Superintendent of Schools Tom Changnon. The Superintendent and these five elected board members are responsible for making major policy decisions in the area of budgeting, curriculum, and advance planning for the County Office of Education. The Superintendent and several Board members will be available to answer questions and provide information about SCOE. The fair runs through Sunday, July 17.

The Oakdale Community United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar Ave., Oakdale, will host a pancake breakfast and classic car show on Saturday, July 16 at the church from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no cost to show your car and all are welcome to attend. The Oakdale Lion’s Club is hosting its ninth annual Poker Tournament on Saturday, July 16. The event will be hosted at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds and is open to all interested in playing cards for a cause. Registration is at 9 a.m., play starts at 10 a.m. with a noon break for lunch. Cost is a $75 donation for tournament and lunch and there will be drawings for door and raffle prizes. There is also a 50/50 Black Jack Tournament with a $10 buy in and the tournament itself includes $2,500 pay out in Visa cards. The Riverbank Library will celebrate the release of J.K. Rowling and Jack Thorne’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with a party on Tuesday, July 19 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Children and teens will have the opportunity to make lollipop brooms, pom-pom owls, fizzy potions and wands. Snacks will be provided. The Harry Potter Party is sponsored by the Friends of the Riverbank Library. Magic Dan will perform on Wednesday, July 20 at 3:30 p.m. Children and their families are invited to enjoy this free magic show. The Riverbank Library Book Club will meet on Tuesday, July 26 at 4 p.m. to discuss ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ by Khaled Hosseini. The library is at 3442 Santa Fe St., Riverbank. Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 20. Mobile District Office Hours for the month of July were recently announced by Congressman Jeff Denham. His scheduled stop in Riverbank is Thursday, July 21 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Riverbank City Hall, 6707 Third St., Riverbank. The visit is being hosted in conjunction with Senator Cathleen Galgiani and Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen’s offices. Mobile District Office Hours (MDOs) are an opportunity for 10th district residents to meet with the congressman and staff to hear more about his work in Washington, D.C. and the Central Valley, have their questions answered or get help with specific casework.

Stanislaus County Office of Education’s YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company is producing the classic musical “Les Miserables, School Edition” to be performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto. Tickets are now on sale at the Gallo Center for the Arts box office and online at www.galloarts.org. Performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28; Fridays, July 22 and 29; with 3 p.m. shows on Saturdays, July 23 and 30; Sundays, July 24 and 31. Oakdale’s VFW Post is gearing up for the next of its monthly hamburger night fundraisers, with Wednesday, Aug. 3 the date for the next event. Hours are from 5:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m., at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds clubhouse. Attendees can stay after eating to socialize. All donations at the dessert table at the monthly dinner go to purchase wreaths for Wreaths Across America. The local VFW and Auxiliary’s goal is to have a wreath on every grave at the Santa Nella Veterans cemetery.
