The construction fences are down and Phase II facilities at Silva Park are open for business. The west Crossroads expansion was opened to the public in late June, according to Recreation and Parks Department officials.
The new area features restrooms, in addition to a gazebo with two picnic tables with benches and a pair of all-weather ping pong tables. The tables feature permanent solid ‘nets’ engraved with “Silva Park” and “City of Riverbank” logos.
Unlike gazebos in other city parks, officials said the Silva facility would be available on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis for the time being. The gazebo in the Community Center Park, Burney Pavilion and the new wedding gazebo in Jacob Myers Park require a reservation for group use.
Parks officials pointed out that the bare ground surrounding the addition would be mulched to help keep down the dust, but grass would not be planted until drought-based watering restrictions were lifted.
Silva Park is located in the west end of the Crossroads area, between Chancellor and Antique Rose Way east and west, and between Saxon Way and Novi Drive, north and south. A large drainage basin is next to the playground equipment.
