Leaders at New Life Community Church sponsored a backpack giveaway to students who attended Vacation Bible School last week. An annual event at the church, more than 65 children received them, according to officials. Also, the backpacks were full of paper, pencils, markets and other school supplies, just in time for the start of the school year, which is today. The backpacks were presented, along with free haircuts, on Wednesday, Aug. 2. The church is at 6443 Estelle Ave., with Sunday services beginning at 10 a.m.
