Caltrans work on Highway 108 as it passes through Riverbank now includes a one-lane stretch between Seventh and Topeka streets, forcing traffic to stop at a temporary signal light and wait for oncoming traffic. Here, eastbound vehicles wait their turn as oncoming cars are moving westward. The current work follows the weeks-long surveying the state’s transportation department did last year, hinting that there may be more widening construction on the highway as it moves further east. The stop lights function 24/7, with the greatest amount of congestion during commuter hours, both morning and evening, along the heavily traveled route.
