Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened in Riverbank on Thursday, Feb. 11 in the Crossroads Shopping Center. They offered guests four days of giveaways and specials like a free Big Yellow Cup on Thursday, dollar sliders on Saturday and on Sunday kids ate for free. On Friday, Feb. 12 Dickey’s foundation Barbecue, Boots & Badges donated 100 percent of their potato chip sales to all families of first responders.

Business partners Rafael Armenta, Sr., Rafael Armenta, Jr. and Martin Lopez opened the Riverbank location and are originally from Modesto.

“We are excited to serve the community of Riverbank with high quality, slow-smoked barbecue,” said co-owner Lopez. “We wanted to be able to bring that Texas flavor here to Riverbank.”

Along with bringing a taste of Texas to Riverbank, the partners have more than 30 years of combined restaurant experience.

With red and yellow balloons out front of the new barbecue pit and a staff member passing out free samples of their brisket and pulled pork, the official grand opening was underway.

There are over 90 stores in California and more than 500 restaurants throughout the states. The barbecue chain started in Dallas, Texas in 1941 by Travis Dickey.

Starting out washing dishes, working every station along the way, Lopez has made his way to the top, owning his own restaurant.

“So hard work, long hours, and dedication pays off,” stated Lopez.

In true Dickey’s tradition the Riverbank restaurant slow smokes their signature meats on-site like the brisket that is smoked for approximately 12 to 13 hours.

Lopez explained that his personal favorites are the brisket and the ribs. They offer three different kinds of sauces: original, sweet, and spicy.

“The ribs are phenomenal,” added Lopez. “You top those (sauces) on whatever proteins you like.”

The restaurant is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

On Sundays, kids 12 and under eat for free with the purchase of an adult entrée.

“We like the (Dickey’s) brand because it is a unique brand,” expressed Lopez. “It is great barbecue and guests love it.”

The restaurant also does catering for any occasion like weddings, anniversaries, and home gatherings.

On the menu you can find items like the hickory smoked brisket, Italian marinated chicken breasts, turkey, Polish Style Kielbasa, pulled pork and fall off the bone ribs. The restaurant also offers sliders and sandwiches as well as a long list of Homestyle sides like potato salad, barbecue beans, green beans, and fried okra.
