Mid-Cal Blue Star Moms Mark Fifth Anniversary

A special celebration is in the works for Monday, Aug. 12 at Round Table Pizza, 2441 Claribel Road in Riverbank, as the Mid-Cal Blue Star Moms organization marks its fifth anniversary.

The chapter was stared in 2014 when a local military mom and a national officer who was moving to the area began the search for other mothers of veterans or currently serving military sons and daughters. They then petitioned Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. for a charter.

Since that time, the organization has supported not only its own children but many others from this area and around the country as well.

“We have presented two Gold Star Banners and attended the funerals of others who were lost in service or as a result of their service,” noted Chapter President Gaylene Ramos. “We have sent hundreds of care packages and delivered thousands of cases of cookies donated by local Girl Scout troops. We have supported National Guard units, Reserve units, local veterans, and we have attended many of the local events.”

Ramos added that the chapter members have also “worked to support each other along the way” as well.

The Open House being put on by the chapter is set for 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12 for the informal meet and greet, followed by a chapter meeting. All are welcome to attend to learn more about the local Blue Star Moms group.

Ramos said they are an active community group, helping support military families and keeping in touch with service members.

“We have spoken in school assemblies and 4H meetings, and to the many children who stop by our information table (at community events) and color pictures for our service members,” said Ramos.

“A military mother has emotional needs that are hard to describe to others, even to those who are supportive. Somehow, other moms just seem to understand what we go through,” noted Ramos.

The Mid-Cal group has helped start two new chapters in the Lodi/Galt area and in Stockton as they reached out to moms in the San Joaquin and Tuolumne county areas as well.

“We are stronger than ever, and we are looking forward to the future of our chapter,” Ramos said. “We hope you will help us celebrate at our August meeting as we begin the meeting with an open house for questions or a chance to get to know us.”
