Still hovering close to the $6 per gallon mark, average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 2.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.81/gallon as of June 8, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 18.0 cents per gallon lower than a month ago but stand $1.35/gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 13.8 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $5.29 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $5.23/gallon while the most expensive was $6.79, a difference of $1.56/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $4.19 while the highest was $8.59, a difference of $4.40/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 17.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.09/gallon. The national average is down 45.2 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands $1.02/gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back five years show the lowest June 8 price was $4.07 per gallon in Modesto in 2021; the lowest U.S. average was $3.07 per gallon, both on June 8, 2021 and 2025. Highest Modesto average price was $6.28 per gallon in 2022, with the highest U.S. average of $4.98 per gallon also on June 8, 2022.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $5.72, down 11.9 cents from last week’s $5.84/gallon; Oakland - $5.89, down 15.2 cents from $6.05; and San Jose - $5.88, down 12.0 cents per gallon from last week’s $6.00/gallon.

“Average gasoline prices declined in virtually every state over the last week as oil prices continued to fall, with crude approaching $90 per barrel and refiners ramping up output following seasonal maintenance,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “The combination of lower oil costs and improving refinery runs has kept downward pressure on pump prices, giving motorists a welcome reprieve.”
