No Contract Awarded For Downtown Work

Bids for the Riverbank downtown beautification project's second phase and construction of the Plaza Del Rio were opened on Aug. 7 and the low bidder was Sierra Nevada Construction Company in the amount of $5,367,104.

Having postponed the bid award at their Aug. 11 meeting for further study of the figures, however, Riverbank City Council members sitting as the Redevelopment Agency (RDA) again failed to award the contract at the Aug. 25 meeting because of conflicts of interest.

Since three of the five agency members - Dave White, Virginia Madueno and Sandra Benitez - all own property lying within the redevelopment area, City Attorney Tom Hallinan Jr. ruled it was necessary to go to a straw vote to produce a third voting member but White was absent from Monday night's meeting.

This leaves the Agency seeking to find White and bring him back to town to vote at a special meeting before Thursday evening.
