Oakdale Alum Launches New Online Boutique

Girls, ladies, young women and mommies need not go far to find cute fashion styles at affordable prices thanks to the ingenuity and go get ‘em spirit of Avery Novotny.

The 19-year-old Oakdale High School alum took one step closer to making her dream a reality earlier this month as she launched her online business, AveryAnna’s Boutique.

“It’s an online business and mobile,” the 2019 OHS graduate shared.

Plans for the business launch of the mobile trailer have been delayed to at least the end of April due to the current social distancing precautions. Yet it’s not a setback, but rather an opportunity for the young entrepreneur as orders have come in daily since the March 11 online launch.

“It kind of gives me more time to get everything even better and prepared,” Novotny said of the mobile trailer which will be used for events, house parties and, “all the things.”

Admitting to a long time love for fashion, Novotny first approached her father with this idea during her junior year at Oakdale High. An ambitious self-starter himself, Novotny’s father required details on how the business would be funded and all the key points necessary in owning a small business.

“Me and my dad have that the same ... just go for it attitude,” she said of her father’s encouragement. “We reach for the stars always.”

However senior year quickly found the active teen busy with other things and the idea went to the back burner. Among the things which kept her busy prior to the business was a blog and Instagram page she started titled “Living my own style.” The success of this endeavor led Novotny to a partnership with the popular fashion Instagram page and app “like to know it.” In that partnership she promoted clothing/items for other businesses. She quickly realized people liked her style and items were selling from other companies that she promoted.

“I made very little money from that,” she said, noting the exposure as wonderful and even greater opportunity for her newly launched business.

“It’s going really good. I’m really excited,” she said of her website success.

AveryAnna’s Boutique currently features clothing items, as well as accessories. Clothing sizes range from extra small to 3x in some styles. Items purchased may either be shipped or if local, delivery can be arranged.

“If you order something and live here, you just e-mail me within an hour of your order and we schedule local pick up,” Novotny said.

As for the assortment and variety, in addition to offering a number of sizes, the young entrepreneur also shared she purchases items she herself would personally wear.

“Ever since I was little I’ve always been so passionate about fashion,” Novotny continued. “I’ve always loved it. I’ve always been a girlie girl.”

And now that the dream has become a reality, Novotny says she has no regrets and is more inspired than ever.

“It’s incredible,” she said of the experience thus far, sharing that she is most inspired by the support of her family and the small town community which has encouraged her.

“Even if it failed I would be proud of myself. I’d failed and I’ll learn from it and try something else,” she stated.

Yet failure hardly looks imminent for the hardworking teen. With a day job, her evenings and weekends are spent at the makeshift command center in her home or out reviewing inventory in her trailer.

“I would absolutely love to have my own store or my own warehouse and be all online and be thriving off the online side,” she said, looking down the road to the future.

As for her ultimate goal and what she hopes to bring to her customer, Novotny’s words best sum that up.

“I think everyone should be comfortable in their own skin and rock it.”
