Recruits from Modesto, Ceres, Stanislaus Consolidated and Patterson fire departments have officially started a 12-week joint fire academy in preparation to become probationary firefighters. Modesto Fire Department Photo

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 19 through Monday, Jan. 25. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.



No time listed – Weekly station maintenance was completed.



3:22 p.m. – Modesto Engine 29 responded to Highway 108 and Kennedy Road in the community of Knights Ferry to assist Tuolumne County Fire with securing a helicopter landing zone for a patient from out of the county.

8:02 p.m. – Modesto, Stanislaus and Ceres units responded to a working structure fire in the 3000 block of Gatesville Avenue. Crews arrived on scene with an active fire in the attic and around the exterior of the chimney. The fire was contained to the attic, wall and roof of the second story. No injuries were reported. Fire cause was accidental in nature related to a wood burning stove.



No time listed – Modesto Fire Department and Staff administered COVID vaccine at the Centre Plaza in Modesto.



No time listed – The Modesto Centre Plaza was prepped for COVID Vaccine dispersal.

No time listed – Crews responded to a vegetation fire on Sonora Road in Oakdale; Modesto Fire and Cal Fire worked together to extinguish 12 acres.



No time listed – Today marked Day 1 of MCS Academy 21-01. Good luck to all the recruits from Modesto, Ceres, Stanislaus Consolidated and Patterson Fire Departments. During the course of this 12-week joint fire academy, the recruits will be pushed mentally, physically and emotionally in preparation to become probationary firefighters.

12:14 p.m. – MCS Crews responded to a structure fire in the city of Waterford; crews quickly contained an exterior fire threatening a structure, minimizing damage to the building.

No time listed – MCS crews responded to a fire in a large debris pile on Bentley Road near Oakdale. Crews remained on scene for approximately two hours extinguishing and assisting with overhaul of the smoldering material.
