The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Feb. 4 through Monday, Feb. 10. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, FEB. 10
MST Firefighter academy continued Engine Company Operations training at Fire Station 17.
MST Engineer academy began with driver training evolutions at the Regional Fire Training Center.
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies completed Monday apparatus checks and station maintenance.
SUNDAY, FEB. 9
MST Companies finished rotating through the RFTC for Company Expectations lead by the on-duty Battalion Chiefs. This gave an opportunity to review the Department Expectations with the crews and the BC’s the ability to answer questions that personnel had.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 24 and Quint 22 trained on auto extrication techniques.
Engine 26 and Engine 7 trained on engine company operations, and they reviewed building construction methods at a local construction site.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Battalion 5 companies rotated through the RFTC for Company expectations.
Engine 7 and Engine 26 trained on hose line stretches and first alarm assignments.
10:30 a.m. – Engine 29 was dispatched for a vehicle fire on 28 Mile and Sonora Road. Engine 29 arrived on scene to find a stolen vehicle burning in the middle of a field. The vehicle appeared to be stolen and had been burning for a while. Engine 29 extinguished the remaining fire and CHP was notified.
Station 27 and 29 had members Scouts Troop 365 stop by the stations to give them a box of treats and present them with a thank you card. The crews at Station 27 and Station 29 provided the scouts with a tour of the fire station and even paused for a photo opportunity.
SATURDAY, FEB. 8
Companies throughout MST rotated through the RFTC for Company Expectations lead by the on-duty Battalion Chiefs. This gave an opportunity to review the Department Expectations with the crews and the BC’s the ability to answer questions that personnel had.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews reviewed EMS policies and field treatment guidelines.
Engine 21 and Quint 22 practiced their rope rescue skills in preparation for their upcoming Rope Rescue Technician class.
Battalion 5: 12:28 a.m. – Engine 28 to North Third Avenue for an EMS call. Crews arrived on scene to find a patient with severe difficulty breathing. They began aggressive treatment and ALS care. As the patient was placed into the ambulance, they went into cardiac arrest. Pit crew CPR was started, and the Lucas Device attached. ROSC was obtained as they arrived at the hospital. Care was turned over to the emergency department staff.
4:13 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 to Albers and Claribel for a vehicle accident with pin in. Engine 28 arrived on scene with two vehicles involved, with one overturned. One patient was treated for minor injuries and no pin in was found. The driver of the other vehicle fled and sheriff’s deputies were searching for them.
Crews performed apparatus checks and Saturday station maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s for Saturday Drill Day.
Battalion 5 companies rotated through the RFTC for Company expectations.
8:12 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 26, and Battalion 5 responded to the report of an injury accident on Lon Dale and Cleveland Avenue. Engine 28 arrived on scene to find three vehicles involved blocking the Highway. Three patients with minor to moderate injuries were provided with ALS care at scene and transported to local area hospitals for further evaluation and treatment.
FRIDAY, FEB. 7
Battalion 2: Engines 21 and 23 trained on pumping operations in preparation for the upcoming engineer’s academy.
Quint 22 trained in preparation for an upcoming rope rescue class.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews completed rotations through quarterly EMS training. Training focused on protocol updated and medication administration.
Engine 27 and 29 trained on pumping evolutions.
THURSDAY, FEB. 6
MST Firefighter Academy continued with Engine Company training and evolutions.
Battalion 2: Engine 21 met with the Airport Manager and the Modesto City/County Airport control tower.
6:47 p.m. – Engines 23, 24, and 4456 responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 132 and Rushing Road west of LaGrange. E24 was the first to arrive and advised that one person had minor injuries. The balance was canceled. CHP was on the scene conducting an investigation.
Battalion 5: 7:07 a.m. – Engine 27 to Alamo Court for a medical aid. Crews arrived on scene and began treating a patient for chest pain. As they loaded the patient into the ambulance, the patient went into cardiac arrest. Pit crew CPR and additional ALS care was initiated. After five minutes of care, ROSC was obtained. The patient was transported to a local hospital with one firefighter on board assisting with patient care. Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient was breathing on their own.
Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews rotated through quarterly EMS training.
Engine 9 trained with the MFD explorers on PPE and turnout drills.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 5
THE MST Academy continued with Engine Operations training evolutions at Fire Station 17.
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies completed detailed apparatus maintenance on water rescues and water tenders during this shift.
Engine 23, Engine 24 and BC2 responded to Hickman Road at Yosemite Boulevard for an “iPhone crash notification” vehicle accident. Engine 23 arrived first and found only one patient and could handle, canceling the balance.
Battalion 5: Engine 28’s crew took out the new Brush 28 to Woodward Reservoir to get familiar with the new apparatus in anticipation of its busy summer. Brush 28 will inevitably be dispatched to numerous vegetation fires in 2025.
TUESDAY, FEB. 4
MST Academy conducted the first day of Engine Operations training at Fire Station 17.
MST Command Staff and BCs attended the monthly staff meeting at admin.
Battalion 2: Stanislaus companies worked on station interior cleaning today.
Engine 23 and Engine 24 performed drivers training in preparation for the upcoming engineers academy.
Battalion 2 companies responded to several wind related calls.
Battalion 5: 7 p.m. – Engine 27 responded to a public assist on Lasso Court in Oakdale. A tow truck driver delivering a truck to a residence was lowering the vehicle off the flatbed when the winch malfunctioned, and the truck slid off shearing a hydrant. E27 was able to shut the hydrant down using their water key.
