The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Feb. 6 through Monday, Feb. 12. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, FEB. 12

Battalion 2: Crews rotated through Station 22 for the first quarter of EMS training.

Training was conducted for the upcoming captain’s test.

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through Quarterly EMS Training at Station 22.

10:09 p.m. – Modesto Engine 9, Stanislaus Engine 26, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Rice Road and Claus Road. Engine 9 arrived on-scene with two vehicles involved. Engine 26 assisted with checking for injuries; one patient was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

 

SUNDAY, FEB. 11

Battalion 2: 6:40 a.m. – Engine 26 extinguished an outside fire at Atchison and Seventh Street in Riverbank.

Sunday drill and sign offs with WT23 and Brush 23.

Battalion 5: Crews at Station 28 found a large area of the roof membrane that had become dislodged during recent storms. They worked to get the membrane back into place and secured until repairs could be made.

 

SATURDAY, FEB. 10

Battalion 2: 4:04 a.m. – Engine 26 and Battalion 5 to Silversmythe for an EMS CPR call. Crews arrived on scene to find the patient in cardiac arrest. ALS Care was initiated, pit crew CPR started, and the Lucas Device was attached. After 35 minutes of care with no change, the patient was declared deceased by a doctor at DMC. The scene was turned over to the sheriff’s department.

Engine 26 was outfitted with new 5” hose today.

E24, E21, and BC2 conducted officer development training at Fire Station 24.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 and E10 performed company training at Station 17.

 

FRIDAY, FEB. 9

Engine 28 and SQ11 performed drivers training on Rescue 11.

Battalion 2: 7:29 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to Claus and Highway 108 for a smoke check. On arrival they found a pile of trash burning along the bottom of the bluff. They used the deck gun to extinguish the fire.

E23 and BC2 met with E24 and trained in preparation for the upcoming Captain test.

Battalion 5: 7:38 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Claribel and Bentley for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved with the roadway blocked. One patient was treated for minor injuries and transported to a local hospital.

Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Crews trained on hose deployment and ground ladders.

Engine 7 and Battalion 5, along with other public safety agencies, attended the Tim Tebow Night to Shine event at Shelter Cove Community Church.

10:35 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Lon Dale and Valley Home Road for a vehicle accident with pin in. Crews arrived on scene to find one vehicle that had rolled several times, resting on its roof with one patient still inside. Crews began ALS treatment and packaging on one patient with major injuries. An air ambulance was requested to transport the patient and a landing zone was established at River Oak Grace Church. One patient was transported to a local hospital by CalStar 12 with major injuries.

 

THURSDAY, FEB. 8

The Modesto Fire Explorers held training Thursday evening focusing on personal protective gear and self-contained breathing apparatus at the RFTC.

Battalion 2: Fire apparatus and station maintenance were conducted by all crews.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Battalion 5 attended the MFD Safety Committee meeting.

Battalion 5 assumed resources and handled MST coverage during the Lakewood Incident.

Battalion 3, Engine 28, Engine 27 and Engine 9 participated in the “Every 15 minutes” program at Oakdale High School. This “Every 15 Minutes” event educated roughly 300 high school juniors and seniors on the consequences of driving while impaired. The program is funded through a statewide grant coordinated by the California Highway Patrol in collaboration with our partnering agencies. Thank you to the Modesto Fire Department, Oak Valley Ambulance, CHP, Oakdale Police Department, Cal-Star Reach, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and Memorial Hospital for making this event successful.

 

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 7

Battalion 2: Crews attended the first quarter of EMS training at Station 22.

Stations 24 and 26 have set up storage racks for additional EMS equipment that will be coming to the stations.

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through Quarterly EMS Training at Fire Station 22.

Crews completed station maintenance and apparatus checks.

 

TUESDAY, FEB. 6

Battalion 2: Crews cleaned up around the stations after the recent storms. The roof was reinstalled on the pump house at Station 23 and secured.

Battalion 5: 5:11 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Truck 5, and BC5 responded to a natural gas leak inside a business in the 100 block of East F Street in the City of Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on-scene and checked the business with the 4-gas monitor; there was no smell of natural gas or any hazardous condition found. The responding balance was cancelled.

Crews completed apparatus and station maintenance.
