The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 1 through Monday, April 7. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, APRIL 7
MST apparatus rotated through ST.17 to have flow testing done on apparatus discharges.
Battalion 2: Crews completed online training and weekly engine checks.
Battalion 5: Companies completed weekly apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 28 assisted the Oakdale High School ROP class with teaching them EMS skills.
7:37 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 26 and Battalion 5 to Lon Dale and Valley Home Road for a reported vehicle accident with pin in. Engine 28 arrived to find a single vehicle rolled over into a field with the driver out. The driver was evaluated by medics and refused medical treatment.
2:37 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29, Battalion 5 and Farmington Fire to Highway 4 and Milton Road for a vehicle accident. Battalion 5 arrived on scene with two vehicles involved. Firefighters and medics evaluated two patients that refused transport.
4:20 p.m. – Engine 29 was alerted by residents to a possible person in the river. Crews launched Water Rescue 29 to check. Discarded clothing was found on a rock in the middle of the river.
SUNDAY, APRIL 6
Battalion 2: Crews completed station maintenance around the fire district, with a special emphasis on the board room at Fire Station 26.
12:49 p.m. – Engine 24, Engine 21, Quint 22, and BC2 were dispatched to a multiple vehicle accident on Oakdale Waterford Highway at Ellenwood. Engine 24 arrived, and it was determined there were only minor injuries, canceling 21 and 22.
Battalion 5: Engine 29 pre-fire planned the wildland area, identifying fire hazards and alternative water sources.
11:55 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29 and BC5 responded to Orange Blossom Road near Honolulu Bar for an injury accident involving a motorcyclist. Engine 28 was first on scene with a single motorcycle into a tree with one immediate patient treated on scene and transported to a local hospital.
6:17 p.m. – Engine 27 responded to an individual with difficulty breathing. Engine 27 arrived on scene and found the patient in cardiac arrest. Crews initiated PIT Crew CPR and worked with Oak Valley ambulance providing ALS cardiac care on scene. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the patient was declared deceased.
SATURDAY, APRIL 5
Battalion 5: Engine 27 visited with Safe Kids Stanislaus group at the Save Mart parking lot in Oakdale to support the car seat initiative.
Company training was conducted at various locations.
FRIDAY, APRIL 4
Five members of MFD completed the Structural Collapse Specialist training course that took place throughout the week in Sacramento.
Battalion 2: Brush 24 conducted off-road driver training and progressive hoist lay.
Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Battalion 5 ran resources and MST Engines provided coverage during multiple fires throughout the shift.
Engine 27 trained on hose estimations and stretching 1¾” hose line.
THURSDAY, APRIL 3
Battalion 2: Orientation was completed on the new engine. Hose and equipment have started to be loaded. There are still a few items to be completed. Crews hope to have the engine in service by the end of the month.
Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance, in addition to company level training in their respective FMA’s.
2:36 p.m. – Engine 27 responded for a vehicle accident on West F and Crane. Engine 27 arrived on scene and found one vehicle into a block wall. Engine 27 assisted Oak Valley Ambulance with patient care and the patient was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2
Battalion 2: The training division assisted with orientation on the new engine.
Day two of the quarterly swift water rescue training was conducted at the inlet at Turlock Lake.
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 27 and Engine 29 trained with other MST companies on boat operation and water rescue techniques at Turlock Lake.
1:05 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Battalion 5 and Escalon Engine 1-1 to Highway 120 and Victory for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved and the roadway partially blocked. Three patients were evaluated and treated by Firefighter/Paramedics for minor injuries.
2:25 a.m. – Engine 27 and Engine 28 to Green Haven Drive for a carbon monoxide alarm sounding. Crews arrived and found a CO detector in alarm mode. Firefighters used their 4-gas monitor to sweep the house. No signs of CO were found. Crews remained on scene ventilating the home.
TUESDAY, APRIL 1
MST Battalion Chiefs and Command Staff met to go over operational planning and issues.
Battalion 2: 3:06 p.m. – Engines 22, 23 and BC5 responded to the 9500 block of Milnes Road for a vehicle vs. a utility pole. Engine 23 was the first to arrive and located one person with minor injuries. MID was requested due to damage to the pole. CHP is investigating the accident.
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Battalion 5 attended the monthly Command Staff meetings.
Companies trained on policy review and overview of the RIC bag.
