The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 2 through Monday, June 8. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JUNE 8
Battalion 2: 8:23 p.m. – Engines 23, 24, Quint 22, and BC2 responded to the Sunrise Vista Apartments in Waterford for a reported fire in the wall. E24 was the first to arrive and located a hot water leak in the wall. All units were canceled.
Battalion 5: Crews performed weekly equipment checks and yard maintenance.
Battalion 5 managed station coverage during a structure fire in Battalion 1.
8:51 p.m. – Engine 28, 27, Quint 22, and BC5 responded to Wagon Wheel Court in Oakdale for a gas leak. Crews were able to isolate the leak and then stood by until PG&E arrived.
SUNDAY, JUNE 7
Battalion 2: 10:08 p.m. – Engine 23, Water Rescue 23, and BC2 responded to Modesto Reservoir to assist in searching for a missing person on a kayak on the lake. After about thirty minutes of searching, the subject was located, and no further assistance was needed.
Battalion 5: BC5 trained on Cal Fire’s annual communications plan.
E28 trained in engine company operations in Station 28’s area.
BC5 performed resource management during two working incidents.
E29 conducted captain’s training.
SATURDAY, JUNE 6
Battalion 2: 4:02 p.m. – Modesto E12, BC1, Water Rescue 28 and Stanislaus Water Rescue 26 were dispatched to the 11000 block of Beckwith Road for reports of three subjects in the river in distress. Enroute information changed of the location. BC1 and WR26 continued to the Ripon side to assist Ripon Fire. All subjects were safely removed from the river with no medical complaint.
7:13 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to Squire Wells Way for a vehicle fire.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 and Engine 28 trained on rural water supply operations at Station 27.
3:42 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to a solo vehicle crash on Warnerville Road in Oakdale. One female was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
6:35 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27, Water Tender 27 and Battalion 5 responded to assist Escalon Fire on a fire in a shop/shed in the rear of a residence on Vine Avenue in Escalon. Crews arrived and assisted with water supply and overhaul.
FRIDAY, JUNE 5
Battalion 5: Crews conducted station maintenance in their territories, worked on target solution assignments, and trained in their respective Fire Management Areas.
THURSDAY, JUNE 4
Battalion 2: Crews spent the day doing yard maintenance and station upkeep.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance. E28, E7, and E10 conducted a multi-company drill, reviewing a fire incident video discussing key size-up considerations, and then simulating a structure fire at a 2-story residence with fire on the first floor and a victim on the second floor.
Engine 29 conducted training in Knights Ferry focused on above ground hose stretches.
WR29 and WR28 conducted swift water boat training on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3
The Central Valley Incident Management Team conducted annual spring training at the RFTC in preparation for the upcoming fire season. Members of the team consist of personnel from Modesto Fire Department, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, Turlock Fire Department, Cal Fire TCU, Murphys Fire Department, Stanislaus County Sheriffs, Stanislaus Regional FIU, Stanislaus County Fire Warden, City of Modesto IT, and Burbank Paradise Fire Department.
Battalion 2: 10:39 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7 and Battalion 5 responded to an injury accident with two vehicles involved. E26 treated one patient for minor injuries.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 29 conducted station and yard maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.
The crew at Station 29 in Knights Ferry conducted swift water boat training on the Stanislaus River.
6:23 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 9, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded for a potential structure fire in the 5800 block of Holbrook Drive. Engine 26 arrived at scene of a 2-story residence with nothing showing. After further investigation E26 found a defective alarm and cancelled the response.
12:46 a.m. (Thursday) – Engine 28, Engine 29, and Battalion 5 responded to a report of an injury accident at 108 and Kennedy Road. Engine 29 arrived on scene on Highway 108 just west of Lovers Leap to find a single vehicle off the roadway. Engine 29 provided care to one patient on scene who refused being transported to a hospital for further treatment.
TUESDAY, JUNE 2
The Fuel Mitigation Team continued their project work at the Mitchell Bridge area of the Tuolumne River, putting in fire breaks and mulching.
Battalion 2: MST Command Staff meetings were held at Modesto Fire Administration.
4 p.m. – Water Rescue 2, Water Rescue 26, Engine 12 and Battalion 5 responded to the Stanislaus River, north of Salida for a water rescue. While responding, Ripon Fire Department was requested, and both agencies went into a Unified Command. Engine 12 was able to locate the patients and secure them on the shore. Boat 2-1 from Ripon was able to ferry them back to the launch point. All parties were evaluated by medics on scene and were released.
10:53 p.m. – Brush 24, Grasses 21, 23, OES 4615, WT 21, 23, and BC2 responded to a vegetation fire in LaGrange on J59 just north of Highway 132. E4486 was the first to arrive and found a quarter acre of grass on a hillside on fire. The crew’s quick action quickly contained the fire to approximately half an acre. All units, except B24, were canceled. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.
Engine 28 and 29 trained on boat operations and operator signoffs.
Battalion 5 attended the monthly Command Staff meeting.
