JOHN H. LUST

John H. Lust passed peacefully on December 13th surrounded by his wife and daughters, just as he lived his life. John was very proud to have served his country as a US Marine from 1963 to 1967. While stationed in Beaufort, SC, he met Robin who would soon become his wife and the most important person in his life for over 50 years. They had a life together that could never be matched, only attempted to be duplicated. Together they raised two daughters, Salli Eddington and Tamara Zirkle, a great source of pride to John and Robin. After being surrounded by women, John was happy to welcome sons-in-law Rob Zirkle and Sean Eddington into the family. One of his greatest joys was the addition of five grandsons, Justin Benziger (19), Caleb (13) and Andrew (12) Eddington, and Gavin (15) and Noah (13) Zirkle. Also important to him was his sister, Kathy Riggs, brother-in-law Lloyd Riggs, and many nieces and nephews. His loving parents, William and Dorothy Lust, and his brother, Richard Lust, preceded him in death.
John, with long time business partner Bob Hagopian, was a CPA in Modesto. He also served in an advisory role with various community organizations. Through his profession he touched the lives of many who have remained lifelong friends. Travel with grandparents as a child inspired John with a passion to explore the world. He was able to indulge this passion, traveling to every continent, 78 countries, and all 50 states. He always said that “the best trip was the next one.” John traveled not only for pleasure, but also as a member of Rotary International and Hope Haven West. Service to country and community played an important role throughout John’s life.
Family and friends gathered to honor John at a Memorial Service at The Portal, 1324 Coldwell Ave. in Modesto on Monday, December 19 at 2 p.m. To continue John’s work, remembrance contributions can be sent to Rotary International (rotary.org -GIVE) or Hope Haven West (hopehavenwest.com – Donate).
