Joseph H. Harbert, 80, of Riverbank died Saturday, March 20 at Oak Valley Hospital.

A native of Stockton, he was a resident of Riverbank for 27 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Stockton High School, as well as a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. Following his 25-year career in the Merchant Marines he joined California Vegetable Concentrates, Kraft General Foods in the Engineering Department. He retired in 1990.

He was a member of the Society of Marine Port Engineers, Navy League of United States, Stockton Council and a Mason affiliated with the Morning Star Lodge #68. He and his wife were also active participants in the "Us Too" prostate cancer support group. He was proud to be a 10-year survivor of the disease.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Harbert of Riverbank; children, Jim F. Harbert and Karen O'Bannon, both of Oakdale, and Joseph R. Harbert of Connecticut; seven grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer and Kristine Harbert of Oakdale, Brian and Kelli O'Bannon of Oakdale, and Joseph Thomas and James Michael Harbert of Connecticut. Also survived by his father-in-law, Forrest W. Faight of Stockton and dear friend, Maria Wagner of Stockton.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 25 at 1 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church in Oakdale. Visitation was held
