Confronted by an employee at the Save Mart store in the Crossroads Shopping Center, the suspect, who police said is a juvenile, struck him in the head with the bottle, but was detained and arrested.

He is charged with attempted robbery, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.

Sheriff's deputies are still looking for his accomplice, who fled on foot and was described as a black male.

The incident occurred at 8:24 p.m. in the shopping center at Claribel and Oakdale roads, according to Riverbank Police Services.

In another robbery earlier in the week, a suspect hit Little Caesar's Pizza in the shopping center at Patterson and Oakdale roads that also houses CVS Pharmacy, The Dollar Tree, Jack in the Box and other businesses.

It happened at 9:47 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, according to a police spokesman who noted Modesto has recently experienced a number of attacks on Little Caesar Pizza stores.

The suspect displayed a weapon, got an undetermined amount of cash and left on foot. Deputies are looking for a Hispanic male in his 20s in connection with the case.
