Riverbank’s City Council has approved the expenditure necessary to fund the engineering and design of Oakdale Road improvements from Crawford to Morrill roads. The vote came after a presentation by City Manager Sean Scully outlined the funding and proposed schedule of the project.

These improvements are along the west side of Oakdale Road, immediately adjacent to where grading and site preparation has begun for the first phase of home construction for Crossroads West, a 380-acre annexation of farmland immediately to the west of the current Crossroads development area.

“The City Engineer has estimated approximately $38,500 in design costs for the development of the plans for this improvement with an approximate time frame for completion of three months,” he told the council.

This time frame will provide the City with plans that can be sent out for construction within the same general time window as when the anticipated site improvements are occurring within the subdivision, officials said.

“Ultimately the goal is to coordinate the various construction activities (on site subdivision infrastructure, MID utility undergrounding, and Oakdale Road improvements) during the same time window so that the first phase of construction will have a generally complete project both within and immediately adjacent to the new subdivision,” Scully added.

The improvements will facilitate the development anticipated to take place after the first phase kicks off this summer.

The report noted that the Crossroads West Specific Plan set forth that Oakdale Road north of Crawford Road would be configured to match the improvements that currently exist on the east side of Oakdale. This work will include an additional vehicle lane, curb, gutters, sidewalks, bike lanes, landscaping, center median and landscaping within the median to match the medians south of Crawford Road, according to the report. The improvements are also anticipated to be timed appropriately to coincide with Modesto Irrigation District’s undergrounding of utility lines on the west side of the roadway, Scully said.
