Community Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired is hosting the 12th annual Pedaling Paths to Independence on Saturday, Feb. 22. Funds raised support vital programs and services that inspire and empower people who are blind to live independently.

The bicycle ride begins and ends in Linden; there are two different routes available for cyclists. The 65-mile ride covers Calaveras, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, including Linden, Farmington, Eugene, Milton, Jenny Lind and Bellota. A 24-mile ride travels between Linden and Bellota. Organizers anticipate at least 300 riders, most taking on the longer route. There will be both tandem and solo riders. Residents and motorists in the area can expect to see the bicyclist along several country roads including Dodds, Milton, South Henry, East Sonora, State Highway 4, Escalon-Bellota, Copperopolis, Flood and Fine roads, among others.

The event is recreational, not a race or a parade. Riders can start any time between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Support and gear vehicles will roam the routes to provide any mechanical assistance and/or first aid as needed. The Stockton-Delta Amateur Radio Club will provide radio communication. There are three rest stops along the way, Farmington Fire District; Milton Masonic Cemetery; Bellota Intake Facility.

There were nearly 270 riders pre-registered and officials also expect to register several dozen more on Saturday morning prior to the ride.
