With graduation and the end of the school year just a couple of weeks away, regular season sports are winding down for Riverbank High athletes. Some spring sports are done, some finishing this week, and the regular track and field season concluded with the Trans-Valley League Championship Meet hosted in the RHS stadium this past week.

TVL Championship Meet

Riverbank again hosted the big league championship for track and field athletes from throughout the Trans-Valley League on Thursday, May 5, in the Angelo Novi Stadium.

It began just as the school day was letting out, and concluded under the stars.

Unlike a regular track meet, where field events and running events are conducted at the same time, in the Championship, field events were first, and track events followed. This allowed athletes who participate in both areas to concentrate on the upcoming events, and not have to bounce back and forth depending on what was happening on the field.

The top three finishers in each activity were to advance to the section championships this week with the fourth place finishers going as alternates.

Bruin Boys: In the boys long jump, Riverbank senior Anthony Leon placed first, with a jump of 20-feet, 10.75-inches. In addition, Leon place first in the triple jump. He also ran the last leg of the boys 4x100 meter relay, along with Freddy Anderson, Fabian Garcia and Nick Mangiapane, but they finished fourth there, at 47.26. They came in fifth in the 4x400 meter relay.

Nick Alcantar posted a 12.55 in the 100 meter dash, for 13th place, while Adrian Montoya placed 15th at 12.72.

In the 400 meters, Jose Alvarez came in 11th, at 60-seconds even. Matt Knerr was 17th, at 1:08.69.

Mangiapane came in fifth in the 800 meters, with a 2:11.68, while Jose Alvarez was 15th at 2:30.90 and Adrian Reynoso came in 14th in the 1600 meters.

In the 3200 meters, Esteban Rios came in fourth, Miguel Garcia was 15th, and Reynoso was 16th.

Stanley Tran came in 10th in the 110 meter hurdles, and 11th in the 300 meter hurdles.

RHS senior Alcantar placed 11th in the boys shot put, while juniors Knerr placed 15th and Diego Gutierrez was 16th.

Sophomore Kaydon Brawley marked 7-feet 6-inches in the pole vault, for ninth place.

Lady Bruins: Senior Ainsley Wood took second place in the triple jump, with a distance of 31-feet 1½-inches, a personal record, and then finished in fourth place in the long jump.

In the 3200 meter run, Riverbank junior Dayanara Ruvalcaba came in third, with a time of 13-minutes, 7.07-seconds.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Lady Bruins finished fifth, posting a time of 4-minutes, 40.5-seconds.

In the girls 200 meters, Alexia Martinez placed 17th. In the 800 meters, senior Cruz came in seventh.

Riverbank freshman Chantel Andalon finished tied for 15th in the girls shot put. Analiese Serrato ended up 12th while Andalon was 13th in the girls discus.

In the girls pole vault, sophomore Selene Navarro finished in a three-way tie for fourth place, while sophomore Kate Tigert ended in a three-way tie for eighth place.
