The Valley Vipers have taken the field for their inaugural season of women's tackle football, following several months of preparations.

The team is comprised of 30 highly motivated women who want to play football, both for the challenge and for their pure love of the game.

While the team is based out of Modesto, team members come from various cities within Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties, including Valley Vipers players from Modesto, Stockton, Tracy, Oakdale, and Ripon.

The Valley Vipers are members of the Women's Football Alliance, a 78 team league founded in 2009.

The WFA is the largest-ever women's football league in the world and has teams nationwide.

Team owner Conor Keaough said, "We are eager to begin our first season. We have a very talented group of women ready to play. From seasoned veterans, to first year players, the women have really come together as a team over the past weeks of practice."

The Valley Vipers began their inaugural season on Saturday, April 14 in Temecula, facing off against the West Coast Lightning. They have another road game this week, in Fresno, against the Cen Cal War Angels on Saturday, April 21.

Their first home game will be on Saturday, April 28 when they take on the Bay Area Bandits at Central Catholic High School Stadium at 4 p.m.
