Labor Day Weekend Offers Annual Triathlon

The scenic setting of Alpine County will be the location for the 16th annual Bear Valley Triathlon. The popular central Sierra Labor Day Weekend tradition will be held on Sunday morning, Aug. 31 at Bear Lake, in Bear Valley Village.

The triathlon course features a 600-yard swim (warm water, close to 70 degrees, wet suits are allowed, but not necessary); a 10.5-mile bike ride (rolling, climbing loop course); and a 3.4-mile run (rolling road). Air temperature will be approximately 70 degrees by 10:30 a.m. The triathlon will conclude with the awards ceremony, raffle, and a barbecue at the nearby Tamarack Pines Inn.

The Bear Valley Triathlon entry fee is $55 in advance and $65 race day. Team fee (three participants), $155 advance and $190 race day. Entry fee includes refreshments, T-shirt, awards, raffle ticket, and post-race barbecue lunch. All participants must wear a swim cap for the swim; participants are also required to wear an ANSI approved bike helmet during the bike ride.

Coordinated by On Your Mark Events, soapstone trophies will be awarded to the first overall male and female winners and etched glass trophies will be given to the masters overall male and female finishers.
