Fall sports at Riverbank High School winds down this week, with student athletes preparing to shift gears into winter schedules.

Bruin varsity football closes out its 2016 schedule with a home game on Friday, Nov. 4. The Bruins welcome Sierra Ridge/Rite of Passage High School from San Andreas to Angelo Novi Stadium, with the game beginning at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Recognition Night, with RHS senior cheerleaders and players recognized prior to kickoff.

Earlier, after a bye on Oct. 21, Riverbank traveled to Big Valley Christian in Modesto last week, taking the field for the Oct. 28 contest.

After leading the Lions 14-12 at the half, RHS was shut out in the third and fourth quarters, falling 25-14 at the end.

Lady Bruins Volleyball

Both JV and Varsity girls volleyball teams saw their final action of the 2016 season with a last game on Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium the Lady Bruins call home.

Celebrating Senior Night, they welcomed the Lady Yellowjackets of Hilmar.

The Bruin Boosters recognized graduating senior players and their families prior to warm-ups for the varsity game.

The varsity team lost the match in three games, 6-25, 15-25 and 8-25. The JV team fell in two, scores were 4-25 in both.

Girls Golf Concludes

Following the Annual Pro-Am Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Escalon, RHS Girl golfers saw Division V Sections last Monday, Oct. 25, at Micke Grove Golf Links in Stockton. The Masters Tournament was to be held yesterday, Nov. 1, at Spanos Park Golf Course, also in Stockton.

RHS Cross Country

Harriers on both of the Riverbank Cross Country Teams, boys and girls, are still competing, with a Sub-Section meet set for Angels Camp on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Section meet will be at Folsom High School in Sacramento and the fall running season ends with the State Meet on Saturday, Nov. 26 in Fresno.

Winter Sports Schedules

While winter sports teams have been holding conditioning workouts, formal practice for some teams will start on Monday, Nov. 7.

The RHS sports schedule promises to be a crowded one this season, since both boys and girls soccer teams will be playing at the same time. That, in addition to basketball and wrestling.

In years past, boys soccer has been during fall and girls has been held in the spring, with all matches being played on the soccer field, adjacent to the varsity baseball field.

Since all matches, both for boys and girls this year are to be played during the winter, all four teams, varsity and JV, will have to share the football stadium and play under the lights.

Bruin boys soccer play is set to begin on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at home, in a scrimmage against Johansen.

Inside this winter, both boys and girls basketball begins toward the end of November.

The schedule for wrestling has not yet been finalized.
