There was lots of high school sports action on the home fields and courts over the past week, with RHS athletes hard at work in the heart of the Trans-Valley League schedule.

Bruin Boys Soccer

Even though there were no classes scheduled on Monday, Jan. 15, for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, boys soccer hosted Hughson’s Huskies on the local home field. Despite many attempts on net, the Bruins fell short on the 5-1 final score.

They traveled to Ripon High for a 3-2 victory on Friday. They were to host Modesto Christian on Monday, Jan. 22, with Hilmar coming to town for matches on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

RHS Boys Basketball

Last Tuesday, Bruin varsity basketballers were disappointed by a visit from the Ripon Indians. Ending the first quarter down 20-2, and the first half down by a 30-19 edge, the home team just couldn’t get on track, finishing on the low end of the 61-45 final score.

On Friday, Riverbank took a heartbreaking overtime loss at the hands of the Huskies on the road in Hughson. They fought hard to tie the game by the end of regulation, but were outscored 14-7 in the extra frame, finishing down, 65-58.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, RHS was to travel to Mountain House to close out the first round of TVL action. On Friday, they’ll host the Cougars of Escalon to kick off the league’s second half.

Lady Bruin Hoops

After taking a 76-62 loss on the road in Ripon on Tuesday, Jan. 16, Riverbank’s varsity girls basketball fought back from a halftime deficit against Hughson’s Lady Huskies on Thursday, Jan. 18. They fought back, pulling out a 56-40 win on the home court.

They were to host Mountain House’s Lady Mustangs on Jan. 23, after The News went to press, then they will travel to Escalon tomorrow, Jan. 25, to open up the second round of TVL contests.

Girls Soccer

After posting a 5-3 win at Hughson on Monday, the MLK holiday, the Lady Bruin varsity soccer girls suffered a 5-1 loss to visiting Ripon High School on Friday, Jan. 19.

This week, they are scheduled to visit Hilmar for a match today, Wednesday, Jan. 24. They’ll host Escalon next Monday, Jan. 29.
