Despite school students still being on their holiday break, some Riverbank High School sports teams kicked off their 2018 Trans-Valley League seasons with games, both home and away, over the past week.
Bruin Boys Basketball
The RHS boys basketball teams started off the week with their first TVL game on the road at Escalon, posting a 52-45 win over the Cougars in varsity play on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
On Friday, Jan. 5, the Bruins crafted their first home league win with a victory over the visiting Knights of Ripon Christian High School, finishing on top of a 67-56 win.
Varsity coach Jeff Jennings said he was proud of this team for their good start, citing improved rebounding and a higher shooting percentage as increasing his team's effectiveness.
This week, they were to host Hilmar on Tuesday, Jan. 9, then take time out to compete in the MC Showcase at Modesto Christian on Saturday. They’ll be back, hosting Ripon High on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Lady Bruin Basketball
Varsity girls league play began at home last Wednesday, hosting a 62-29 win over Escalon. They started the game with a 19-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The girls traveled to Ripon Christian on Thursday, Jan. 4, with a 67-59 loss to the Lady Knights. Riverbank was to play yesterday at Hilmar, then next Tuesday at Ripon High.
Soccer Season Starts
Bruin varsity boys soccer finished its pre-season schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 3, hosting Valley High School of Elk Grove, losing 3-0. They were scheduled to start their Trans-Valley League season on Monday, Jan. 8, hosting the Cougars of Escalon. They’re set to play at Mountain House on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Next Monday, they’ll be hosting Hughson.
Lady Bruin Soccer
Girls soccer had last week off, but was scheduled to start their TVL schedule with matches in Escalon on Monday, Jan. 8, then a home contest this afternoon, Jan. 10, against the Mountain House Lady Mustangs. They play at Hughson next Monday, Jan. 15 followed by a bye next Wednesday.
