In a week dominated by Homecoming activities on the Riverbank High School campus, the traditional dodgeball tournament started off the week’s sports activities on Tuesday last week in the Bruin Gym. Then it was a full slate of Trans-Valley League competition and, in many cases, Senior Night recognition for Bruin players wrapping up their final year of high school.

Soccer

Riverbank’s varsity boys soccer team played its last home game on Wednesday, Feb. 7, against Ripon, a Senior Recognition night. The Bruins won that one, 4-1. They’ll be finishing their TVL season on the road this week, with a match at Modesto Christian High School that was scheduled for Monday, Feb. 12 after The News went to press and the final game at Hilmar set for Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Varsity girls soccer for RHS played last Wednesday, too, at Ripon, losing 8-0 to the Lady Indians. They’ll finish their 2018 season with a Senior Recognition event at the Wednesday, Feb. 14 game, hosting the Lady Yellowjackets of Hilmar.

Basketball

The Lady Bruin varsity girls basketball team traveled to Hughson on Friday, Feb. 9 falling to the Lady Huskies, 60-48. Earlier in the week, they hosted the Lady Indians of Ripon and took a 72-54 loss in that final home game, with recognition for senior players also included. Their Trans-Valley League season was scheduled to end on the road Tuesday, Feb. 13 with a game at Mountain House.

Bruin varsity boys basketball hosted their Homecoming Game on Friday, Feb. 9 with an 83-74 victory over the Hughson Huskies. The celebration against a local team made for a crowded gym and even busier parking area for the evening.

The boys were to finish up their 2018 TVL season with a Senior Recognition night on Tuesday, after The News went to press, against the visiting Mustangs of Mountain House.

Spring Sports

Official practices were able to begin for all RHS spring sports on Monday, Feb. 5, with tennis, baseball, softball, track and field and boys golf all underway, with some teams minus those Bruin athletes who are completing their winter sports schedules and will join their spring sports a little later.
