The challenge would have been steep for a complete Riverbank High squad, but for a Lady Bruins squad running on less than full power, there wasn't even a chance, as Riverbank was dealt two lopsided defeats at the hands of Argonaut and Linden High recently.

The Lady Bruins' struggles opened when a 12-2 Argonaut squad came into Riverbank High with nothing on their mind but a victory. Riverbank exchanged possessions and battled on the boards for the beginning of the opening period, yet the Mustangs' stifling press and transition shooting proved to be too much for the short-handed Lady Bruin squad.

Riverbank saw first hand how much development the squad still has to make to compete at the level of some of the section's premiere teams. Argonaut erupted for a 37-4 halftime lead, before the two teams took their intermission shoot-arounds. They never let Riverbank get much of anything going in the second half, either, walking off with the easy win.

The dismal slide continued when the Lady Bruins made the road trip to Linden to take on the Lions on Friday, Jan. 9. Riverbank stumbled out of the blocks, letting a tough Linden team jump out to a 34-point halftime cushion. It was just too much ground to make up, and Riverbank dropped its second straight to a Mother Lode League opponent.

The Lady Bruins will have their final non-league tune up when they play host to Bret Harte on Jan. 16, followed by the squad's Trans-Valley League opener on Tuesday, Jan. 20 against Ripon Christian. The Lady Bruins will continue on their three-game homestand as they welcome the Ripon Indians for a contest Jan. 22.

The Lady Bruins put up a valiant fight, yet an early 20-point deficit was too much to overcome as the squad fell to Argonaut 39-27 in front of the home crowd. Riverbank received standout play from Aimee Felix and Jade Finch while teammates Kaitlyn Deabenderfer and Breanne Magana also made substantial contributions. The squad will look to seize momentum before opening the Trans-Valley League schedule, when they play host to Bret Harte. TVL play opens Tuesday, Jan. 20 with a home game against the Ripon Christian Knights.
