The City of Riverbank’s Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a general information meeting regarding the annual Halloween Hayride on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. at Jacob Myers Park. Anyone that is interested in volunteering for the event is encouraged to attend the meeting. People are being sought to devise a creative site to add to the Halloween Hayride at the park. This year the hayride is slated for Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29. For more information contact Parks and Recreation at 209-863-7150.

The next session of ‘learn to square dance’ starts on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Oakdale Grange Hall, hosted by the Singles Skirts ‘n Flirts square dance club. The Good Time Accordion Club meets the second Wednesday of each month for their musical and social gathering at the Escalon Community Center, 1055 Escalon Ave., with the next session on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Admission is $5 at the door; meetings are at 7 p.m. and the rest of the club’s meetings for 2016 are scheduled on Wednesdays, Oct. 12; Nov. l9 and Dec. 14. Accordion players of all ages and levels are welcome, in addition to listening enthusiasts. The club also accepts donated accordions. For more information, contact Gayle Certini at 209-526-3627.

Foothill Horizons Outdoor School will host an Open House on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their Sonora site. There is no fee to participate. Operated by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE), this event is geared towards parents whose children have attended or will attend Foothill Horizons Outdoor School. This is also an opportunity for parents to evaluate Foothill Horizons as a place to send their children to summer camp during the summer of 2017. Oakdale Garden Club will host a seminar on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Subject of the seminar will be herbs with a demonstration of things to do with them, including tips on growing and tasting, presented by club member and Master Gardner Pegi Palmes. Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 21.
