Members of the Cheer Squad at Riverbank High School raised money by washing cars and trucks in the bus circle on campus this past Saturday morning. They completed their work before the heat of the day, raising funds for uniforms and other needs in the upcoming fall and winter seasons.

Athletes and other sports enthusiasts returning to school this fall at Riverbank High School are working now to raise funds for their activities.

This past Saturday, coaches and participants in the RHS Cheer Squad worked into the heat of the day to wash cars and trucks to raise money for equipment and the coming season.

It was a warm and clear morning where they scrub-a-dub-dubbed in the bus circle on the high school campus.

Admittedly, they did take a pizza break mid-morning, but for the most part, they were kept busy by passersby taking advantage of the opportunity for a car wash, up until about noon.

Coach Stephanie Mireles said the JV squad includes nine cheerleaders, while the varsity features a group of 13, and they’ve been practicing, off and on dodging vacations, since June.

Coming up July 20 and 21, in the front parking lot of the high school, the RHS boys soccer team will be holding a rummage sale. They’ll be earning money to help offset the cost of new gear and equipment.

And while the area is in the grips of a summer heat wave, fall sports practices will be starting fairly soon, along with the new school year. Teachers return to their classrooms beginning on Friday, Aug. 3 to prepare for the year; students head back to class on Wednesday, Aug. 8.
