The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 12 through Monday, Dec. 18. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, DEC. 18
Battalion 2: Companies focused on apparatus maintenance.
Training was conducted at the engine company level.
Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly equipment and station maintenance.
SUNDAY, DEC. 17
Battalion 2: Companies completed engine and station maintenance.
Training was conducted at the company level. E24 trained on hose deployments and management.
8:18 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to the 4400 block of Adams Gravel Plant Road for a gas leak. The homeowner was digging and hit a gas line. E26 stood by until PG&E was able to clamp it.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed station maintenance.
12:25 p.m. – Engine 27, 28, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded to Reardon Street for a potential structure fire. First arriving firefighters found pool equipment that was on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire, checked for extension, and secured the power. The home sustained minor damage.
7:45 p.m. – Engine 27, 28, 26 and Battalion 5 to West F Street and Lee for a vehicle accident. First arriving crews found two vehicles involved with major damage and the eastbound roadway blocked. A total of four patients were found, one immediate, two delayed and one minor. One of the patients was pinned in the vehicle. Firefighters began extrication efforts with hydraulic tools and ALS care. All four patients were transported to local hospitals. OPD is investigating.
SATURDAY, DEC. 16
Battalion 2: Companies completed engine and station maintenance.
Training was conducted at the company level.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed station maintenance.
Captain Cortes participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery for Wreaths Across America honoring first responders and veterans.
Crews trained on EMS protocols and MCI triage.
FRIDAY, DEC. 15
Battalion 2: Engine 23 attended the MJC Fire Academy graduation for Colt Parshall. He will receive his station assignment next week.
Weekly maintenance was completed on all Type 3 and 6 engines.
Battalion 5: 7:04 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Quint 22, and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire in the 200 block of Laramie Court for a report of a fire within the oven. Engine 28 arrived on scene of a single-story house with nothing showing; Engine 28 advised that the fire was out within the oven and confirmed that there was no fire extension beyond the oven. The responding balance was cancelled.
THURSDAY, DEC. 14
Battalion 2: 7:45 a.m. – Engine 26 responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian on Westgate Drive and Saxon Avenue in Riverbank. Engine 7 was added to the response to set up a Landing Zone. Engine 26 arrived to find two patients down on the road, one immediate and one delayed. Both patients were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals. Stanislaus County MAIT Team was on scene conducting an investigation.
Battalion 5: Members of the Central Valley Incident Management Team continue the O-305 All Hazard Training.
9:27 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident in the 4000 block of Albers Road. Engine 28 arrived on scene of a solo vehicle accident with power lines down due to a damaged power pole. All occupants of the vehicle refused medical care and PG&E secured the power to the lines. CHP is investigating the accident.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 13
Battalion 5: Engine 27 and Engine 28 met with Battalion 5 and reviewed operational notes.
10:04 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 24, Quint 22, and Battalion 5 were dispatched to the 4700 block of Crow Road for a smell of plastic burning. Engine 28 arrived and reported a single-story residence with nothing showing. After investigating, the source was determined to be the smell of a newly installed fire stove. The occupants declined assistance to ventilate their house. All units were canceled.
Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 attended the City of Oakdale employee holiday appreciation luncheon.
TUESDAY, DEC. 12
Battalion 5: Engine 28 participated in engineer training focusing on Quint 18 signoffs.
1:37 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 26, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to the 7400 block of River Road for a vehicle accident with entrapment. Training 1 was in the area and reported two vehicles involved, negative entrapment. Two occupants received medical attention by medics, and one was not injured. Engine 27 handled, and all others canceled. E29 provided coverage at Station 28. CHP investigating.
