The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 19 through Monday, Dec. 25. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, DEC. 25
Battalion 2: Companies performed Engine and Station maintenance.
Christmas was celebrated at each fire station.
Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.
Companies completed fire station yard maintenance.
Crews prepped for the upcoming turnout ISP.
SUNDAY, DEC. 24
Battalion 2: Quint 22 conducted training on aerial operations.
Battalion 5: 12:29 p.m. – Engine 7, Truck 5, and BC5 responded to the report of a CO alarm with symptoms. Crews arrived to find the CO alarm sounding and Truck 5 used their 4-gas monitor to confirm the house was clear of CO. Engine 7 and AMR checked the homeowners that were experiencing symptoms.
5:06 p.m. – Engine 9, Engine 3, Truck 5 and BC1 responded to a potential structure fire in the 2900 block of East Orangeburg Ave. Engine 9 arrived to find light smoke from the front of the residence and began to investigate. Crews located a fire in the oven and quickly extinguished the fire. Crews checked for extension in the attic space (negative) and ventilated the residence.
SATURDAY, DEC. 23
Battalion 2: Companies spent the day on cleaning the apparatus bay, including the floors.
Training was conducted at the engine company level.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed station maintenance.
The local High School Leadership Club delivered holiday cookies to Station 27.
Engine 27 trained on policy review for the Probationary Firefighter and Engineer task book sign offs.
10:27 a.m. – Engine 7, E27, Truck 5 and Battalion 2 responded to Stanislaus Street in Riverbank for a potential structure fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a light haze in the apartment from a cooking fire that was out. Firefighters remained on scene to ventilate the structure.
FRIDAY, DEC. 22
Battalion 2: Engines 21 and 26 attended the Battalion 1 drill in Station 11’s area.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed station maintenance.
Battalion 5 participated in the Battalion 1 training.
Engine 27 and Battalion 5 helped local service groups and OPD distribute Christmas gift bags to the residents at Oak Valley Care Center.
Engine 27 and 28 conducted a nighttime search drill.
THURSDAY, DEC. 21
Deputy Chief Michael Shockey performed his flag raising ceremony at Modesto Fire Station 1. Chief Shockey served with distinction and pride for over 26 years. His leadership and command presence will be sorely missed.
Modesto Fire Administration organized a fun picture with Santa event for the fire family. Several kids got to visit and take pictures with Santa and do several activities.
Battalion 2: 3:33 p.m. – Engine 26 was dispatched to Stanley Allen Court for an unresponsive subject. E26 arrived after the ambulance and assisted with ALS care.
Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews finished annual company level training.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 20
Battalion 2: 5:16 p.m. – Engine 23 and Quint 22 responded to a vehicle accident in Waterford, in front of the Pioneer Market. E23 was the first to arrive and advised that one vehicle had fled the scene. There were no injuries, so the balance was canceled. Waterford PD is investigating the accident.
Battalion 2 worked on company officer signoffs with Station 26.
Battalion 5: 7:04 a.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries in the 19000 block of Milton Road. Engine 28 arrived on scene along with CHP and confirmed the accident to be non-injury; the responding balance was cancelled.
8:03 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with a report of entrapment at Highway 108 and Lancaster Road. Engine 29 arrived on scene with one vehicle on its roof on the shoulder of the Highway. Engine 29 confirmed that there was no one entrapped and advised that the accident was non-injury. The responding balance was then cancelled.
TUESDAY, DEC. 19
Battalion 2: Engine 26 and Q22 met at Station 17 and worked on ventilation sign offs.
6:03 p.m. – E7, E26 and BC2 responded to a vehicle accident at Terminal and Claribel. Two vehicles were involved, both drivers refused treatment.
Battalion 5: Crews completed company level training.
