MARILYN ANN MORALES   AUG 14, 1926-FEB 13, 2015

Marilyn Ann Morales of Riverbank passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in her home on the morning of February 13, 2015.  She was a native of Oklahoma City, OK and attended Mt. Saint Scholastica College in Atchison, KS.  As a freshman in 1944 she met the man she knew she would marry, Juan G. Morales.  After graduation they married and started a family, living in Denver, CO and Herne Bay, England as part of the Shell Development Co. Guest Scientist Program, before settling in Modesto.  In 1982, they retired to the open sea, and later, San Diego. Sailing adventures included a passage through the Panama Canal, and trips to the Caribbean and Hawaii before returning to the Modesto area in 1987. Over the years, she served in various school and civic capacities including as President, Corresponding Secretary and as the much appreciated Chief Onion-Chopper for the annual Enchilada Take-Out with Riverbank Federated Women’s Club and Vice President of AAUW of Modesto.  She and Juan, and later she alone, supported the Modesto Symphony Orchestra and were long-standing members of the MSO Conductor’s Circle as well as active members of St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church. In her free time, Marilyn enjoyed knitting, reading and crossword puzzles. Additionally, Marilyn was an avid bridge player and belonged to various bridge groups, including one originally composed of Shell employee wives, which has met for over 50 years.  Even to the end, Marilyn displayed her bridge prowess by scoring high every time she got good cards!  Marilyn’s love of bridge was surpassed only by her love of family. She was preceded in death by Juan, and is survived by her 6 children and their spouses:  Susan (& Tim) Sanders, Christopher (& Damaris) Morales, Martha (& Barry) Martin, Anne (& Gary) Mendenhall, Ellen (& Tom) Dougher, Sarah (& Bruce) Hamren, and her 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  Additionally, she is survived by siblings Leo Slief, Bertha Fallaschek, Joan Herndon, and Carol Dowling Lee.  A Rosary Vigil will be held at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 and a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Riverbank, Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Community Hospice or the American Heart Association.
