Marion "Jeff" Gonzales, 94, passed away on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.
She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 27, 1918.
Known as "Jeff," she grew up in Riverbank and attended Cardozo Elementary School and Oakdale High School. In her younger days she loved playing sports. In 1941 she moved to Escalon with her husband Tony and was a homemaker as well as running the family trucking business for 55 years.
A lifetime member of Escalonia and El Rio Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star, she was also an integral part of the initial fundraising efforts to purchase Escalon's first ambulance.
"Jeff" enjoyed traveling, Oakland A's games, gardening and taking part in the various activities of her children and grandchildren. She also loved to decorate for the holidays, especially Christmas.
Survivors include her daughter, Vickie Mello (Bob) of Escalon; son Dick Gonzales of Escalon; grandchildren Rick Mello (Crystal) of Ripon, Rich Gonzales of Escalon, Roxanna "Punkie" Gonzales of Escalon, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Leota Mackedon, sister Gertrude Alexander and husband Tony Gonzales.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at English Oaks for their compassionate care for nearly three years.
A graveside service was held at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon, on Tuesday, Jan. 8, followed by a memorial service at Trinity Church, 1900 California, Escalon.
Visitation was at Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon on Monday, Jan. 7.
Charitable contributions in Marion's name may be made to the Escalon Fire District Memorial Fund or to any animal rescue group.
