Bruin track and field performers competed against Modesto Christian and Mountain House this past week and won both meets.

“The kids performed well, and we saw a lot of personal records set,” said head coach Monte Wood. “Savannah Macias remains undefeated in the 100 and 200 in league. She didn’t break any records this time but she is consistently running faster in the 100. It will be interesting to see this week if the warmer weather will produce some faster times in the sprints.”

Damian Lopez remains undefeated in distance races in league for the Bruins. He won the 1600 and the 800 against the Crusaders and Mustangs. Marissa Castellanos and Cecilia Leon went 1-2 in the discus and Bridgete Allen won the pole vault again.

Theo Luu and Zac Richison had good weeks as well.

“One thing that really stuck out in this week’s performances were kids who were willing to do events that they hadn’t participated in before,” noted Wood. “Andrea Ruiz high jumped for the first time and cleared 4’6” to win the high jump. She also won the triple jump with a jump of 29’7”. Isabel Caporale and Bridgete Allen did a great job running the hurdles for first time and picked up valuable points for us.”

The coach said that Riverbank has been missing hurdlers all year long, and both Caporale and Allen stepped up and performed very well.

“I am very proud of them for that,” he said.

This week the Bruins go on the road for the first and only time in league, as they travel to Ripon on Wednesday, April 25.

Friday night they will host the Ron Hebert Thrower’s Challenge and the German Fernandez Distance Carnival. Thrower’s challenge begins at 3 p.m. and the distance carnival begins at 7 p.m.
