The players of Riverbank’s youth football squads traveled to Calaveras High School to take on the Calaveras Jr. Redskins in Angels Camp. Action in the Saturday, Oct. 1 contests saw the Novice team being successful but the JV and Varsity teams each taking a loss.

The score in the Novice game was 20-0, with Riverbank on top.

The Junior Varsity lost 44-0, and the Varsity team lost another squeaker, 18-16.

Jr. Bruins officials did have a bit of good news last week, though.

In the Motherlode Valley Football League standings, before this past weekend’s games, the Riverbank Jr. Bruin Varsity team was tied for first place with the Amador Eagles of Sutter Creek.

They said that parents noted it is the first time in four years that they have been close to or at the top during the season.

This week, the Jr. Bruins return home to take on the Jr. Cats teams from Sonora. Game times are 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. at the RHS stadium.

It's the final home game of the youth football season. The squads end play on the road in Sutter Creek, against those Amador Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 15.
