Riverbank softballers opened Trans Valley League play on April 5 and fought for eight innings to win a 3-2 game against Ripon Christian.
Leading by 2-0 in the fifth inning, the Bruins saw RC rally for two runs in the sixth, then had to play into the eighth themselves to gain the final, winning run.
Scattering 10 hits to RC's four, the Bruin hitters included Kayla Sedain, who went 1-for-3 with two RBIs; Tessa Lozano, 2-for-3; Courtney Brock, 2-for-4, with a double and an RBI; and Jaylene Thomas, 2-for-3, with a double.
Chelsi Walls pitched all the way for Riverbank into the glove of catcher Lozano. Riverbank, and committed five errors compared to RC's three.
Returning to their home field the next day, the Bruins took on Patterson, and lost that game by 5-1.
Riverbank was the first team to score. That run came in the second inning, but proved to be the Bruins only run. The Patterson Tigers went on to score one run in the third inning, two in the fourth, and two more in the sixth.
Walls again did duty on the pitching mound, and Lozano the catching.
At the plate, Brock went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple. Heather Frost also batted 2-for-3 and posted a run batted in.
Both teams were credited with six hits each, but Riverbank made six errors to Patterson's zero.
Friday's game against Ripon was rained out and was reslated for this week. The Bruins are 4-7 for the season to date.
