Though school classes are on break for the winter holiday, there was plenty of action for Bruins sports teams both at home and away.

The Riverbank High School basketball boys stayed busy and notched a pair of wins. The varsity Bruins had two games this past week, one at home and one on the road.

They were home for a game against Turlock Christian last Tuesday, Dec. 12 and came away from that contest with a 66-55 victory against the Eagles.

Then, they traveled for a game at nearby Oakdale this past Friday, Dec. 15. In the game against the host Mustangs, the Bruins once again came out on top, this time winning by a final of 65-42.

They were scheduled to play at Davis High in Modesto on Tuesday, Dec. 19 and are scheduled to play at Beyer in Modesto with a 7:30 p.m. tip off on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

A Dec. 12 game at Del Oro went into the loss column, 63-55, for the varsity Lady Bruins but they bounced back with a solid 65-26 victory on the home court Thursday, Dec. 14 against Beyer. They then took on Mountain House on Friday, Dec. 15 and put a 67-26 win on the books. Action at Manteca on Saturday, Dec. 16 saw the girls fall by a 46-32 final.

They were scheduled to match up again with Manteca on Dec. 21 and then take on Beyer on Friday, Dec. 22 before taking a long holiday break. When they resume play, it will be for Trans-Valley League action, hosting Hilmar on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m., and Escalon on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.

Soccer Boys

The Bruin soccer boys battled to a 1-1 tie with Summerville on Tuesday, Dec. 12 and then had three contests in the Powerade Central Valley Showcase. They opened up tourney play with a 2-1 win over Tulare Western on Thursday, Dec. 14 and then lost a 3-1 contest to Torres on Friday, Dec. 15. They wrapped up play by forging a tie with Atascadero, 1-1, on Saturday, Dec. 16. They were to play at Golden Valley in Merced on Dec. 19, and go to Sonora on Dec. 21. The preseason will wrap up with games at Johansen on Dec. 28 and at Laguna Creek on Jan. 3; then the Bruins see the start of TVL play at Escalon on Friday, Jan. 5.

Soccer Girls

A couple of preseason games went in the books for the Lady Bruins this past week. They traveled to Summerville on Dec. 13 and were shut out there, 3-0. They were back at home Dec. 14 to play McNair and ended that game in a 0-0 tie.

They are scheduled to host Sonora on Thursday, Dec. 21 and then play in a tournament after Christmas. Games in the tourney are to include contests against Ripon Christian and Central Valley Christian on Wednesday, Dec. 27 along with a Dec. 28 match with Escalon.

Then, they will break for a bit before opening up Trans-Valley League play by hosting Escalon in a 5:30 p.m. contest on Friday, Jan. 5.
