After one of the more miraculous efforts from a high school grounds keeping crew, the Riverbank Bruin track program opened up its 2008 spring season with an unofficial three-team track meet with Johansen and Sierra on Thursday, Feb. 28.

The Bruins played host to the two programs as they kicked off the new season with a light workout on the Riverbank High track and field venue in front of a hundred or so fans. Riverbank, Sierra and Johansen got a little work in all of their events, including all of the throwing and jumping events as well.

The three programs did not keep an official score, but were still able to get in some quality work to head into the preseason schedule with a slight glimpse on what to expect.

"I was really pleased with the effort of everybody even though it was the first track meet," Riverbank head coach Ron Hebert said. "They understand what's necessary for them to be successful."

There were obvious signs that it is still early on in the new season, yet the three schools all showed brief flashes of what positives each program can expect heading into the grueling four-month season.

Riverbank has enjoyed a great deal of success over the past few seasons in the track and field arena and the Bruins realize how important this early season work is for the outcome of their season.
