Forty-nine days after Riverbank High's first entry into a varsity tournament, sophomore heavyweight Javier Reyes reached the podium to snare the program's first medal at that stage of competition this season.

Reyes won matches is a tough 275-pound bracket at the 11th Annual Rumble In The Jungle at Pitman High on Saturday to reach the fifth place match.

There he ultimately was forced to surrender an injury-default loss to Central's Malachi Gray of Fresno, and settled for sixth.

Riverbank was still reeling from a one-sided loss to Escalon in a dual meet in Cougar territory on Jan. 26. Escalon, still undefeated in the Trans-Valley League and expected to do well at the Division V Sac-Joaquin Section Team Duals, downed Riverbank varsity wrestlers by a 68-0 tally. The Bruin JV team fell in a 51-18 Escalon win as well.

Riverbank hosts Ripon today at 6:30 p.m. to wrap up the final dual meet of their league season. The Bruins will travel to Ripon on Feb. 12 to take on the TVL Championship Tournament.

Riverbank's three female wrestlers will tackle the girls state qualifier in Stockton on Saturday.
