Library 3.JPG
Riverbank Library is on Santa Fe Street, part of the Stanislaus County Library system.

The Stanislaus County Library has announced the NASA Reading Challenge, taking place Dec. 1 through 31. This challenge is centered around the winter launch of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the most advanced infrared space telescope ever launched. This telescope will allow us to look deeper into time and space than ever before.

The NASA Reading Challenge, open to all ages, is an opportunity to challenge yourself to read and learn more about space exploration. This challenge features several reading and learning activities, where participants can earn badges. Participants will track their progress using the Beanstack app. However, participants may track their progress in any way that works for them, and staff will help enter their data in the Beanstack app.

For more information, visit or contact your local branch.

Also this month, take part in the ‘Story Into Song Virtual Trivia Night: Bless Me, Ultima and Dulcinea.’

The Stanislaus County Library will offer a special themed virtual trivia night on Friday, Dec 17 at 7 p.m. in partnership with Opera Modesto, in celebration of its Story Into Song Literacy Initiative.

Opera Modesto’s 2022 Story Into Song Literacy Initiative performances will feature one-act operas inspired by famous works of literature – Dulcinea, based on Miguel Cervantes’ Don Quixote de la Mancha, and Bless Me, Ultima, based on the novel by Rudolfo Anaya. The virtual trivia event, hosted by Opera Modesto’s general director, Roy Stevens, will feature questions about Don Quixote and Bless Me, Ultima. Answers are multiple choice and true or false, so participants don’t need to be experts in these works to join the fun. First, second, and third place winners will receive two tickets to see Opera Modesto’s upcoming performance of Bless Me, Ultima and Dulcinea, taking place Jan. 8 and 9 at 2 p.m. at the State Theatre in Modesto.

Participants can join the fun individually or in teams. Each player or team will need two devices, one for sound and viewing the questions using Zoom, and one for the Kahoot! app, where participants answer the questions.

Both Zoom and Kahoot! should be downloaded prior to the event. Advance registration is required. Visit to sign up. Once signed up, participants will receive a link to the Zoom meeting.
