With Mothers’ Day festivities behind us, members of the Riverbank Historical Society turn their efforts to their big fundraiser this weekend, the After-Mother’s Day Omelette Breakfast.
It is their annual effort to raise operating funds that get the society through the year. Other ongoing fundraising activities will help the society build the museum annex next to the current museum.
The tickets for the breakfast are available at City Hall, O'Brien’s Market, at the Museum during open hours, and, ultimately, at the door. The cost for adult tickets is $10 with ticket prices for children 6 and under $5. The breakfast will be served at the Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 20.
The breakfast menu includes custom made omelettes, with all the fixings, and a recent addition is Mimosas for purchase. They have become quite popular over the past few years.
The Riverbank Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The Society provides educational programs about local historical persons and places, and it stores and displays artifacts and photographs in the remodeled Carnegie Library which now serves as the Riverbank Historical Museum.
The facility is owned by the City of Riverbank as is the property next door, where an annex is planned to be built. Fundraising activities are set for later in the year to add to the building fund.
Society volunteers staff and operate the Historical Museum, at 3237 Santa Fe in downtown Riverbank. It is behind City Hall North. The museum is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon, and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
It provides a meeting place for visitors to view and discuss local historical events and materials. Fundraisers and donations are used to maintain displays and furnishings within the museum.
According to Society President Kristin Platts, the society is dedicated to preserving, presenting and educating families on the history of Riverbank. They utilize the motto: “Help us preserve the past before it slips away.”
