Bruce Blakely, 76, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 22 surrounded by his loving wife and children.

He was a graduate of Oakdale High School. He was a longtime Riverbank resident and was an active member of the Riverbank community for more than 60 years.

Mr. Blakely managed Copeland Lumber for 35 years. He was a longtime volunteer for the Riverbank Fire Department and also served as a member of its Board of Directors.

He served as a Riverbank City Councilman from 1966-1970 and was the first Riverbank Man of the Year in 1962.

He was active in the Riverbank Lions Club, the Riverbank Historical Society, the Riverbank Man of the Year/Citizen of the Year Club, and served on the advisory committee to the Riverbank High School ROP program.

He loved spending time with his family and many friends, following sports, playing cards, and traveling. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Blakely; children, Marilyn (Steve) Blakely-Smith of Modesto, Beth Blakely, D.C. of Sacramento, Kurt (Kaye) Blakely of Stockton; stepchildren, Diane (Ron) Ricci of Bellevue, WA, Charlotte Mossgrove of Glennallen, AK, David (Kelly) Thomas of Denver, CO; brothers, Jim (Edna) Blakely of Easton, MD, Larry (Darlene) Blakely of Portland, OR; five grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Blakely.

Friends are invited to a celebration of life at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30 at Oakdale Country Club, 243 N. Stearns Road, Oakdale. Private service for the family will be held.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Riverbank Historical Society, 3237 Santa Fe, Riverbank, CA 95367.
