Ripon got the better of Riverbank two times this past week on the baseball diamond, leaving the Bruins still in search of their first Trans-Valley League win of the season.

The boys were home to host Ripon on Wednesday, April 16 and took a 10-2 loss.

Ripon jumped out with three runs in the first and added four more in the fourth to build up the early lead. Riverbank countered with a single run in the first and one more in the third, trailing 7-2. Ripon then put up single tallies in the next three innings, one run each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Riverbank couldn’t get back on the board and took the loss.

The Bruins did rap out six hits, with two from Tristin Rodgers and single hits from Fabian Verdin, Freddie Capas, Roman Cota and Kory Gilbert.

Rodgers went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI; Verdin knocked in the other run. Capas scored a run.

Losing pitcher was Rafael Verdin, who allowed 10 hits, three walks and struck out four. Of the 10 runs Ripon scored, only two were earned.

On Thursday, the team traveled to Ripon and lost a 6-0 decision, managing just two hits on the day. Gilbert and Julian Montoya had the base knocks but the Bruins were stymied by Ripon, and the Indians scored a single run in the first, three in the third and two in the sixth to go along with seven hits on the day.

The JV boys, meanwhile, split their games with the Indians, falling 10-1 on Thursday on the road after taking a 7-4 win on the home field Wednesday.

League play resumes with a home game for Riverbank on Wednesday, April 30 hosting Hughson.
