Riverbank High School athletes, their friends and families gathered on Monday, May 21 to celebrate at a Spring Sports Awards Night in the Fauria Gym.
All the teams gathered in the gym together to announce their major awards, then dispersed into separate rooms across campus to make individual presentations. After that they returned to the gym for refreshments organized by the Bruins Boosters organization.
Co-ed tennis team coach Bruce Edwards presented the Sac-Joaquin Division 2 Champion Team, which included All-Bruin Alex Alfaro, who was also named Trans-Valley League Most Valuable Player. Edwards also recognized Zubaidullah Hamidi and Selena Garcia as Most Improved.
Team members for the Section champions included Daisy Ferreira, Perla Gomez, Selena Garcia, Alondra Ibarra, Casandra Mendez, Jackie Pantoja, Carla Ibarra, Josue Estrada, Erik Pantoja, Zubaidullah Hamidi, Edward Garnica, Jesus Aguiniga, Luis de los Santos, Sheyla Garcia, Juan Vigil, Leo Manzo, Ivan Garcia and Alex Alfaro. Bruce Edwards and Jessica Vasquez served as coaches.
Coach Scott Chambers announced the varsity baseball awards, presenting plaques to All-Bruin Ivan Vega, Offensive MVP Nikolas Mayfield, Defensive MVP Carlos Villapudua and Most Improved Player Preston Davidson.
From the girls track team, coaches awarded Alondra Hernandez the All-Bruin, Savannah Macias was named Most Valuable Runner, and Marissa Castellanos was named Most Valuable in Field Events.
For boys track, the coaches announced All-Bruin went to Zac Richison, Most Valuable Runner to Damian Lopez and Most Valuable Field Event to Issac Andalon.
Boys golf coach Ismael Mercado tagged Andrew Palomino as All-Bruin and Christian Guitron was selected as Most Inspirational Golfer.
Lady Bruin softball coach Cassi Ross awarded All-Bruin to Alyssa Frear, and co-Teammate Awards to Hailey Rodgers and Michel Valenzuela.
